Hair Extensions in Falls Church, VA

Extensions are our specialty. We built the extension program at The Mane Edit around three things: invisible install, custom color, and longevity that earns the investment.

If you've ever scrolled past an extension before-and-after that made you stop and think "wait, those are extensions?" That's the goal. Done well, extensions don't look like extensions. They look like the hair you wish you grew. Thicker through the middle, longer through the ends, the kind of body that holds a curl through a long dinner.

We offer two extension methods, both of which require a consultation before booking. Custom color matching takes time, and we want to make sure we're recommending the right method for your hair before you commit.

Our Extension Services

Extension Move Ups

(from $200, every 8 weeks)

Our Extension Services

The maintenance side of hand-tied extensions. Every 8 weeks or so, your wefts grow out with your natural hair, which means they need to be moved back up to the scalp to stay invisible. We take the wefts out, clean and reposition them, and sew them back in. Most clients get 8 to 12 months out of one set of hair before it's time to invest in fresh wefts.

Skipping move-ups is the most common cause of damage from extensions. The hair itself isn't the issue. Stretching out maintenance is.

Extension Install

(from $1,100, consultation required)

Hand-tied wefts are strands of hair tied by hand into a thin, flexible row. We install them by attaching small beads to your natural hair, then sewing the wefts onto those beads with thread. No glue, no heat, no tape, no chemicals on your strands. Just thread and hands.

The result lays flat against your head, blends into your natural hair, and moves the way real hair moves. You can put it up in a ponytail. You can sleep on it. You can run your fingers through your hair without snagging on a hard bond.

Price of install is determined by desired length and fullness. Your extension experience includes:

  • Cost of the hair

  • Custom coloring

  • Cutting and styling

  • Signature product starter kit

  • Curated hair care guide

Final pricing is confirmed at your consultation before any hair is ordered.

K-Tips

(from $250, consultation required)

K-tip extensions, also known as keratin bond extensions, offer a seamless, strand-by-strand application designed for natural movement and an undetectable finish. Each individual extension is bonded to a small section of your natural hair using heat-activated keratin tips. The result is perfect for enhancing length, fullness, and face framing.

K-tips work especially well for clients with finer hair, very layered cuts, or those who want extra dimension without the commitment of a full row install. Price of install is determined by desired length and fullness, and confirmed at your consultation.

How we approach extensions?

Two things we focus on more than anything else: the color match and the install.

Most "color matched" extensions are matched to a swatch under bad lighting at a wholesale supplier. We custom color your wefts at The Mane Edit before they touch your head. That means we tone, lowlight, or even balayage the extension hair so it reads as your hair. Same dimension, same depth, same shine. When you look in the mirror after install, you shouldn't be able to see where your hair stops and the extensions begin.

The install itself is hand-sewn row by row for hand-tied, or strand by strand for K-tips. We use the smallest, flattest beads or bonds we can get away with for your density. The whole thing is built to disappear under your hair. No bumps. No telltale ridges.

Are extensions right for you?

A few signs they probably are:

  • Your hair is fine and you want fullness without it looking obvious

  • You've been growing your hair out forever and the ends just won't catch up

  • You want length now but don't want to commit to it permanently

  • You've tried tape-ins or fusion before and want something gentler

A few signs we should talk first:

  • Your hair is very short (we usually want at least 6 to 8 inches to install cleanly)

  • You're shedding more than usual or going through a postpartum hair change

  • You have less than a few weeks before an event, since custom color matching takes time

That's why every install starts with a consultation. Sometimes the answer is "yes, this is the right method for you." Sometimes it's "let's look at a different approach." Either way, you'll know before you commit.

Living with extensions

Quick honesty moment. Extensions are a commitment, and the people who love them are the ones who actually do the maintenance. You'll brush gently with a wet brush, sleep with your hair in a loose braid or low pony, use sulfate-free shampoo, and skip oil and conditioner on the rows or bonds themselves. We send you home with your starter kit and care guide after your install, and we're a text away if questions come up between appointments.
