Hair Color in Falls Church, VA
Color is the centerpiece of what we do at The Mane Edit. From soft lived-in balayage to glossy all-over color, every service in our chair is custom formulated for your hair, your skin tone, and the look you actually want. Not a swatch on a shelf. Not a generic formula off the rack.
A few principles we hold to. Every color service we offer includes a custom gloss, blow dry, and style as the finishing step. We'll always be honest about what's realistic for your hair's starting point.
Whether you're driving in from Falls Church, Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Bethesda, or anywhere else in the DMV, you'll get the same custom approach.

Our Services
How we approach colorTwo things matter most. Custom formulation, and custom toning.Every formula at The Mane Edit is mixed at the bowl based on your hair's underlying pigment, porosity, and how it's behaved with color in the past. We don't pull "medium ash brown" off the shelf and call it a match. The toner we apply at the end is just as important. It's what controls warmth, finishes the color, and gives your hair that glossy, intentional look you came in for.
If you're getting a service that lifts your color, like highlights, balayage, or a Color Transformation, we use professional bond-building chemistry to protect your hair's integrity. Lightener is still a chemical process, but it doesn't have to mean we compromise the integrity of your hair.
Maintaining your color at homeA few habits go a long way:
Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner (we'll recommend a few we love)
Cool to lukewarm water when you wash. Hot water opens the cuticle and fades color faster
Heat protectant before any hot tools
A gloss appointment every 6 to 8 weeks between full color services
Purple shampoo once a week if you're blonde
We send every color client home with product recommendations specific to your hair and your color, not a generic list.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Highlights are wrapped in foil, which traps heat and lifts hair more uniformly and brightly from root to tip. Balayage is also applied in a foil but the technique and placement gives you a softer, more lived-in and natural grow-out.
-
A small, focused service where we place up to 10 foils around your face to brighten the strands closest to your skin. It's a great option for a quick refresh between full color appointments, or for someone who wants noticeable brightness without the full investment.
-
A gloss is a sheer color treatment that adds shine and refreshes your tone without lifting your hair. It's a popular between-appointment service for color clients. Glosses extend the life of your color, keep your tone where you want it, and add visible shine. Every full color service at The Mane Edit already includes a custom gloss as the finishing step.
-
It depends on the service. Root touch-ups every 4 to 8 weeks. Full balayage every 3 to 4 months. Highlights every 8 to 12 weeks. We'll build a maintenance schedule with you at your appointment based on what you're getting and how fast your hair grows.
-
Lift-based services like highlights, balayage, and Color Transformations involve lightener, which is a chemical process. Done well, with bond-building products and good technique, your hair shouldn't feel compromised. Deposit-only services like all-over color, root touch-ups, and glosses are much gentler on your strands.
-
Almost never. Lifting your hair safely from a deep level to a bright blonde takes multiple sessions to protect your hair's integrity. Going lighter usually means a Color Transformation appointment, sometimes spread across two or three visits. We'll talk through a realistic timeline at your consultation.
-
Yes. Our Color Transformation service is built for this. It covers fixing at-home color, removing brassy tones, growing out an old color, or completely changing your shade. These appointments are quoted hourly at $150 because every correction is different.
-
Our color services start at $60 for a Gloss, $100 for a Face Framing Highlight or Root Touch Up, $160 for All Over Color, $175 for a Partial Highlight, $225 for a Full Highlight or Partial Balayage, and $275 for a Full Balayage. A day or two of natural oil is ideal. Don't shampoo the morning of, especially for any lift service. Those oils protect your scalp during processing.
